You need to remove the top shield/cover at the very least; this removes some low value weight and allows Boardsort sorters to easily see what's in there. Removing the box isn't strictly necessary.
Most boxes like that have steel all the way around but depending on the particular board it's near impossible to remove both sides without removing the entire box.
It's been a minute since I've seen one of those so I'm not certain how that affects the grade off the top of my head.
